i love orchard in the mornings. not too early when nothing is open, but around noon when there are just enough people for you to blend in with but not too much as to get into somebody's way with every step.
i was the only customer on the third floor of hmv today.
saw H album (limited edition) and it costs 60 bucks. actually feel a little sorry for some fangirls who expected hmv not to bring it in and ordered it online for 75.
saw musicmind too. only the normal edition though and it costs 70 bucks even without the dvd. i got the one with the dvd at 56! why the discrepancy?
kino was empty enough for my liking =)
felt a little embarrassed bringing three magazines to the counter to let them unwrap to browse but i actually left potato out.
conclusion: duet really has the nicest pictures! and the more recent ones too. but since i got the scans which are big enough for me to read the words, no go =)
yes i actually read all of inocchi's articles while standing there.
bought oricon style with V6 on the cover in the end, the issue which i thought i missed. i like the article though.
attempted looking for practice questions for level 3 grammar but the entire store didn't seem to have it. but busied myself with another grammar lesson book written in chinese. cleared up confusion about the ~られる・~れる and ~させる・~せる forms.
i really think those lesson books written in chinese are better than those in english hmm.
so much to say, yet nobody to tell.
i guess this is when loneliness lives up to its name as the bottom rung of the ladder called social life.
-
figured it would be better to focus on brighter things than on things which can never be revived.
mugging has been making good progress although i took a four day break from it to explore... wikipedia and msn games.
the former was intriguing and i dare say i know more about japan now than all of my friends combined. the latter was fun but, why do the trial periods only allow users to run the program ONCE?
bleah.
mundane lifestyle.
oh well, it's supposed to be the holidays anyway.
did something not very noble today, but it doesn't matter.
i've refrained from mentioning this for months now but,
losing a best friend is like losing a part of yourself, even worse than losing just a boyfriend.
never mind that the best friend is male.
the free time i have on hand now is slightly unnerving me.
people who know have probably noticed i have refrained from mentioning anything about that group of friends here. and they know that i am not in contact with them anymore.
for those who don't, don't ask.
my past holidays have been consumed by them most of the time, attending gatherings, or just hanging around. and all because of that one person whom i loathe to mention about now.
anyway, my holidays used to be so packed in the past that on those free days i have now, i don't know how to get past them. and there are no particular people i can call out. but hey, they've got their own friends and i don't particularly like mixing in with new people. makes me feel like a glaring extra.
basically, i can't think of anything to do outside as well.
i sound so boring eh?
maybe i should just concentrate on my grammar. a hundred pages of worth of sentence structures to memorize is sufficient to keep me busy till i-don't-know-when.
oh well, i've chosen this path, so i shall stick with it.
or maybe i'm just deluding myself with the fact that i'm all alone.
five hours of mahjong at hong's place this afternoon, with xinen and jinli. played two rounds and when we were done, everyone was dead beat.
never knew mahjong could be that taxing.
won twelve bucks! offsets part of the seventy bucks i paid yesterday. yes, despite all reservations, i preordered it.
DON'T say anything that will make me regret it.
the weather these days is really lovely =)
much talk about the above with chris as of late. and she's been more than happy to talk about it.
told her friend about me saying i don't see why people can have so much faith in something not proven to exist. now he is eager to meet me (!) presumably to talk and explain (?).
she is also making me promise to attend her church's christmas service. heard that it'll be very different from what i expect as her church's not the conventional or conservative type who sing hymns and listen to sermons all the time; the perception that i have.
rather, they believe in the moving of the holy spirit (whatever that means) and they sing more poppy songs compared to those that rock me to dreamland o.O
but yes, i'm still fascinated by people who throw their entire lives into religon. i've nothing against them but i am just curious.
maybe.. going for that christmas service will answer some questions?
i don't know.
-
argh. just did a JLPT3 paper for fun.
seventy-one percent, without listening. (fyi: passing mark is sixty)
maybe i shouldn't kick myself for not signing up for JLPT3 and stick happily with JLPT4.
bleah.
でもぜってえあきらめんな~
the little sister turns nineteen today.
so.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS! =)
hope you successfully conquer your tort, contract, singapore legal system and legal writing! not to mention you still have your "beloved" contract next semester. and don't get too lost in your study bible. remember that you still have your tsuyo and himbo to care about~ =P
today marks the sixth year since my family and i moved into this flat.
and the flat itself is eighteen years old. take seven more years, the value of this good 'ol five-room will plummet such that it will be better to stay put.
and so, my parents have been talking of moving, and downgrading to a four room flat; why do two people need a 123-sq ft flat to themselves right?
where? that's the real question. my dad likes marine parade, but the flats there probably cost ten percent more than others. i don't want to live in the west (no offence to the west-dwellers) and ang mo kio area is too hot, being the center of singapore.
i wouldn't mind staying put though. where i am is perfectly fine, save for the sunday evenings at the cinema, which my mom doesn't really like. well, shall see how it goes.
time to read the papers!
who says papers can't be read at the end of the day?
-
pretty boy okada's birthday today! he finally turns 25 haha.
chris is sitting next to me doing her take-home exam paper (!) on the Singapore Legal System so i can't blast music in my room. heh, but the way she's doing it is super funny.
going 'references..', 'argh i'm so dead' all the way.
well, it lasts till one p.m. so i'll just be a good girl and type out and memorise my japanese grammar which i expect would take up the entire day. and its only part 1!
serves me right for being ambitious =P
got my creative zen replaced today. something wrong with the sound system for almost two months now and i finally got it replaced. but its going to be a chore reuploading my five gigabytes of music back in.
got a grammar exercise book from kino today in hope that it'll help me tackle JLPT3 placement test later in december. there goes the last of my birthday vouchers.
saw the holdup down photograph book there. $48.80.
well, sometimes some things you just gotta let go =)
the headlines of the chinese papers today read:
prime minister encourages the use of chinese in daily conversations, and marks a start of a speak chinese campaign targeted at the english speaking community.
i have much to say about myself in this field.
although my chinese is still passable and i can carry on conversations in smooth chinese, my written abilities have deteriorated to the point of a primary six kid.
my vocabulary level is probably worse than that. the chinese idioms have long gone out of the window and back to my teachers.
talk about being chinese. heh.
i'm going to lose my ability pronounce clearly in chinese soon too. the four (or five) different 'yin' have surreptiously blended into a melody of the same tone.
trying to read 'hanyu pinyin' the day before drew alot of laughs from chris, coz she could barely differentiate my words :(
there's something seriously wrong with me haha.
can speak but can't read 'hanyu pinyin'. actually doesn't matter that much, so long i can read actual chinese words in the papers or anywhere around.
point is, i've started mixing up the chinese reading and the japanese reading of the characters!
da-me-da-yo, wa-ta-shi...
-
finally FINALLY got my musicmind! two months after i preordered it -___-
the DVD that came with it was... you people should know what i'm going to say, so i'll leave it at that X)
after two weeks of blasting musicmind, i'm beginning to appreciate the album alot. depsite the kinda bleak review i gave it some time ago.
the different genres of music blend together nicely to give a smooth and happy feel to the album. i like.
and the H album! don't don't tempt me! 99% liberty has been on repeat for half an hour now...
today was a very 'bus' day. most people might already know i love bus rides, especially long ones that stretch almost across the country.
one hour alone in town.
HMV first. not surprised that they didn't bring the kinki kids concert DVD in. but there was no musicmind. surprising, since i saw a copy at the citylink branch last weekend. debated whether to buy the orange single, but twenty three bucks is still too much, although there's a forty-dollar voucher waiting to be used :)
saw both versions of the seishun amigo single. the cover really does no justice to them. they look so... artificial. but i guess the cover doesn't really matter to sell a million copies in four days O.O
didn't bother going to mise. still reluctant to pay seventy bucks for something that cost only thirty in japan. and basically, the V6 stuff there is enough to fit into the palm of my hand. kinokuniya was alright, although i didn't manage to find that culture words book thingy. will probably get it from MPH.
no magazines. enough said :(
met xinen to get my japanese textbook back. well, crapped as usual.
but hope she clears her AA102. don't need two people i know repeating the same module :(
my musicmind had to come only when i finished my exams. i still have to collect it personally from the post office. it is a bulky item?!
and my test center on the fourth is at the japanese school changi campus, which i have totally no idea how to get there. maybe i'll get laypeng to go with me :)
time to enjoy my holiday plans.
(which unfortunately, includes clothes shopping. argh.)
so.. its over.
not many pleasant thoughts after a major-ly screwed up semester.
won't think much about it for now. will have all the time and willingness to reflect when the results are released late december.
i'm exhausted.
do i sound so?
last paper tomorrow.. and i'll never have to see all the subjects again (i hope).
not getting my hopes too high about today's tax paper.
but its the best paper so far :)
i'm itching to post screencaps of the oh-so-awesome onsen trip to hokkaido. problem is, i'm faced with FRS-es (again!) and i'm so distracted and reluctant to tackle it a second time.
i also want to go downstairs to check the mailbox as i'm expecting my package from yesasia to arrive today.
catch is.. i'm lazy to change out of my singlet and boxers.
can you tell how restless i am?
-sigh-
i.. suddenly really regret not going ahead with japanese studies in nus.
no, it has got nothing to do with the paper today. just a sudden resolve. i know how my parents will say japanese studies is something you can learn on your own; afterall learning is supposed to be a discovery process right?
but the point is, its more fun to learn with a direction, with notes, exams, and most importantly, you get to meet people with the same interest as you.
more so for japanese studies than accountancy, where everyone seems to end up there, not enjoying anything just because their friends chose it.
for me, meeting people with the same interest is why i still whine about it. having friends with the same interests will be something new for me. i've never had friends i could talk to about johnnys, japanese and what not.
put that situation in a lousy conversationalist, maybe that's why i'm always so quiet. heh.
back to the topic.
today's paper was okay. finished it, although the person sitting next to me left 25 marks blank. but i never know whether it's enough to get me an A.
and i'm never having three doses of caffeine on the day before ANY paper ever again.
.i.need.retail.therapy.
202 today.. didn't finish the paper.
although i was rushing the entire two and a half hours, i still managed not to finish it. all thanks to the first question. strategy map.
now my fingers are cramping and it didn't help that the hall was freezing even with my jacket on.
three more papers. thursday, monday and tuesday respectively.
but i'm already mentally drained.
well, to be really truthful, musicmind was alot different from what i expected. after okada saying all twelve songs are of different music genres, i was expecting more of jazzy/blues/folk stuff.
i really like folk if you don't already know.
well it turned out to be techno/rap/rock/hiphop with a little reggae sounding track. so.. here comes my review:
JAM JAM NIGHT
i like the beginning music. nice way to start an album.. but the type of song reminds me of the 90's V6 and techno pop. something which i didn't and do not really appreciate. but yeah, it was a nicey start.
THUNDERBIRD ~YOUR VOICE~
i didn't like it as much as chris did (and she is not a V6 fan!) but it was alright.. compared to other tracks in the album o.O
恋の弾丸
what happened to the nice blending of [mix juice]? masa and ken's voices sounded abit off and again its those type of poppy songs i don't really appreciate.
ありがとうのうた
easily my favourite single out of [thunderbird], [utao-utao] and this. reminds me alot of inocchi's 高校卒業式 where he was touched enough to cry. nice and slow feeling after the noisy above :P
ずっと僕らは
the reggae-y beat song i was talking about. okada and go.. somehow it made their voices sound even lower quality than it already is. haha.
BLAZING AGE
what can i say. tonisen taking on a linkin park sounding song?! and the lyrics are almost wholly in english! really, that is my pet peeve for japanese music. it didn't matter if they could pronounce it well but most of the time i was like 'huh'? much as i like tonisen, they should stick to their own music ground. why didn't inocchi write something for this album??
RUDERY BIG UP
the FIRST hiphop song that didn't make me turn it off straightaway. yes, that's how much i don't like english hiphop music. okay this isn't really hiphop but the background music and rap made it sound like one. and okada sounds damn cute rapping! i like this one.
それぞれの空
easily my favourite track of the entire album. nice harmony, music and V6 feeling. period.
夕焼けのドロップ
inocchi and hiroshi. but i never expected rap! haha and inocchi sounds very raw in this one. didn't stand out too much though and hiroshi's singing has improved!
UTAO-UTAO
the single that released in june this year. safe and happy song but its the type i get sick of easily haha. and i prefer songs that have either a dangerous edge to it or songs in minor keys for slow ones. but yeah, it was a single that everybody loved.
ユメニアイニ
why does okada have a solo when the others don't have?? biased manz. but hands down, i prefer the V6 version which is only in the regular edition. okada singing alone is like... i don't know, alot of things lacking i suppose. not a bad song though.
wonder world
ending song to gakkou e ikou. yep i like this. light and poppish; the type of songs V6 were popular for in the 1999-2002 period. i still maintain i like songs with stronger bass and beat.
bonus tracks
i hate remixes. period.
well.. i made it sound bad didn't i? anyway they deserve credit for always trying out new stuff. and it was a better try, seriously, compared to arashi. the album ONE was quite boring. V6 never gets boring, with all the loud music, nice or not.
[ORANGE] was the best example of slow japanese rock but why wasn't it put in? only a weird sounding remix at the end.
i'm looking forward to the DVD though. i love behind-the-scenes. who wouldn't when your favourite member is the one who drives the entire mood of V6? hah.
p.s. the expresso mocha at pacific coffee deserves a spot here. bitter and sweet at the same time. woot!
fed up of studying. finished revision for all the subjects except 202 which i intend to for the next three days before the paper on tuesday.
201 is.. manageable. 213 is even more abstract. including 202, i have three open-book examinations.
save for tax which is almost killing of my brain cells.
welcome break on sunday. going to discuss past year papers with hong and liz. if you even call that one.
on to better stuff.
finally got to watch mechaike!
okada going 関係ないぜ! almost half the time was hilarious! as were the rest of them. ken looked almost identical to the person he was dressed up as. sakamoto was lame. and he actually said the orange stuffed into his mouth forcefully after getting thrown to the ground by the samurai was delicious! maybe because it had a 祝10 on it XD
and go's strawberry print boxers!! -dies- they really throw all their dignity outta the window manz. hiroshi as usual, blur enough to stumble at a trick and inocchi hit his butt when he was carried up by the samurai! gay! yeah~ o.O
inocchi himself looked damn good! to think he can impersonate kishidan! and the samurai had to disfigure his face as punishment :(
but i really wanna see what the photographs were. -sighs-

don't they look funny? the pairings on the motorbikes. no prizes for guessing my favourite pair.
i really like this. nice and natural =)
also read updated translations of next generation, tonisen's radio show.
mostly about their 舞台千秋楽 celebrations but hiroshi brought up the drinking issue again...
inocchi didn't touch alcohol for a month! THAT surprised me. after the account of his drunken state at some celebration. heh.
but yes, he got drunk again this time on whisky. haha. but masa and hiroshi were saying its good to get drunk once in a while and clear out your mind. and contrary to belief, hiroshi is apparently quite a good drinker (!!)
the thoughts of the japanese male. sighs.
and yesasia STILL hasn't shipped my musicmind!! grrr..
